Mixtape Mondays: Eccentrix, The Large, Mad Mike x Fras Twinz, Toddla T

Words by DJ Theory —

With Notting Hill Carnival coming to a close and NYC’s West Indian Day Parade on the horizon, there’s no shortage of mixes and vibes to be had this time of year.  Here’s a few of our picks in the mixtape department to get you whining and raving in record time.

Eccentrix Sound, Move Ya Feet Vol 2:  Pumpin the flag for Italy and Miami is the big man DJ Zone from Eccentrix Sound and Team No Sleep.  Eccentrix never come soft with the mixes, and volume 2 of the Move Ya Feet mix is no exception with over an hour of extremely up to di time dancehall, remixes and exclusives.  If you need some fuel for your bashment bbq or just looking to get up to speed on that new new dancehall heat, grab this one and tun up LOUD.  Stream and download below, tracked version here

The Large, Vibes Cyah Done:  London homegirl The Large most definitely stays busy, repping heavyweight blogs, raves and radio shows via Shimmy Shimmy, Hipsters Don’t Dance and Style & Swagger, repectively.  Although Notting Hill is wrapping up today, the vibes cyah done with this carnival-inspired mix originally selected for our folks at The 45 Shootout. To be expected, The Large delivers a necessary package of key bashment ingredients with dis yah one.  Stream and download below, tracklist here

Mad Mike x Fras Twinz, Happy Daze Mix:  Our folks the Fras Twinz outta Kingston linked up with Italy’s Mad Mike to give you the wicked new mix CD Happy Daze.  Enlisting Mad Mike for the mix was a good look, considering he’s also 1/4 of one of our top-rated juggling machines here at MM, Kalibandulu.  Leading off with the Fras Twinz-produced riddim of the same name (the Beenie sell awwfff) we move into the massive overtime riddim and more current dancehall selections straight from yard.  Slap wehh.  Stream below, download single track here, tracked version here

Toddla T, Carnival Mini Mix for Annie Mac:  Absolutely had to include this one from mi dupes Toddla T, even tho it literally clocks in at under six minutes – which may honestly be the shortest mixtape I’ve ever seen.  Somehow in that span of time the dude pulls and mashes like 50 tunes and makes it all snug, from culture anthems to dancehall past and present to jungle to UK funky, ska, soca and back again.  Not sure who’s idea this was, Toddla or the queen bee / BBC Radio 1 cohort Annie Mac but I’m behind it like a handcart.  Lick it up again and see if you can follow along… Stream and download below
