Dust A Video Bwoy: Watch Kanye West’s “Mercy” Visuals

Words by Jesse Serwer—

Yesterday, we brought you the story of Super Beagle, the unsung but greatly talented Jamaican singer known for the ’90s dancehall classic, “Dust A Sound Boy,” a tune itself known for having one of the greatest intros of all-time, courtesy of legendary dubplate figure Fuzzy Jones. Among other things, Beagle shared his high opinion of Kanye West’s latest single, “Mercy,” which samples and has brought new light to “Dust a Sound Boy.”: “As an artist from Jamaica, we always think or hope that one day an artist like Kanye would sample your work, take it another level to show that people are really listening to our work, not only everyday people, but people [from] far away,” Beagle told LargeUp’s Sherman Escoffery. “It’s a good feeling, and I recommend and endorse it.”

Now, just over 24 hours later, we have Kanye, Big Sean, Pusha T and 2 Chainz’s interpretive dance presentation video for “Mercy,” (also featuring a cameo from Kid Cudi and others) which dropped in audio form back in April. Coincidence? Probably not, but we’d like to believe Kanye and team were so overcome with inspiration after reading Beagle’s story that they just couldn’t hold onto the visuals—which, it must be said, don’t make any explicit references to Super Beagle, Fuzzy Jones or “Dust A Sound Boy, unless you count Kanye and company’s hand movements—any longer. Watch the video below, and don’t miss Sherman’s Super Beagle story—it’s a veritable feast of facts and impressive visuals. Come!
