Typically things work the other way around but today we discovered some great, new reggae music over at Okayplayer Channel One. Not reggae in the purest sense, but a one-drop cover of Nu Shooz’ “I Can’t Wait” by Brooklyn’s Analog Players Society. The execution and track selection were so on point we immediately sought out more from these Players: turns out the group, headed by percussionist/producer Amon, previously applied a similar approach (albeit without the jazzy vocals of Cecilia Stalin, the singer on “I Can’t Wait”) to another mid ’80s dance favorite, “Let the Music Play” (Can a version of Freeze’s “IOU” be far behind?). Stream/buy the MP3 below, or cop the limited-edition 45 (w/ MP3 320 download included) here.
