Mixtape Mondays: LargeUp Exclusive Premiere of So Shifty’s “Careless” + Safari Sound

Words by DJ Theory

Summer nuh done yet! In fact, with Notting Hill Carnival happening as we speak and the Labor Day Weekend festivities in NYC just days away, you could say things are just heating up for Caribbean music. And this week for Mixtape Mondays, we have an exclusive mix cooked up by Hamburg, Germany duo So Shifty.

This pair of troublemakers have been making noise in the clubs over the pond and in the States with a slew of original remixes, bootlegs and edits. From their massive release “Whine, Touch, Clap” (featuring Natalie Storm, Tifa, Timberlee and Ward 21) on Crossfaded Bacon to their soca remix of Jahdan’s “Quick Money” and useful DJ edits to folks like myself, So Shifty is definitely making it pop. When not cranking out tunes and clobbering dances in Europe, they found the time to whip up some certified late summer heat just for us, with their Careless mixtape. As indicated  by the cover, this one is meant for the holiday, the daytime barbecue, the weekend, the beach, the bar–and, if you’re lucky, the bedroom. Though known for their club and tropical bass production, So Shifty take a more straightforward route and keep things 100 percent dancehall on this one. Leading off with Laza Morgan and Mavado’s dreamy number “One By One” (I know a guy that did a remix of that one), the mix moves cleverly into Gappy Ranks’ infectious summer party anthem “Party Town” produced by Seattle bredren Dynasty Records. If you’re in need of beach, just press play. Download here, procure the playlist here.

While we’re on the topic, Summer Nuh Done Yet from our Swedish folks Safari Sound just dropped, and it should also help in easing your summer withdrawal symptoms. Safari always keeps it 100 with mixes and, of course, this round, which features a choice collection of stress-free bits including our own Martei Korley’s breezy new single “Concrete Flower” (produced by Black Chiney’s Mitchum “Khan” Chin), is no different. Stream, tracklist and download here.
