Queen Majesty: Cocoa Tea to Sing at London Olympics

Words by Jesse Serwer

Cocoa Tea is keeping some exclusive company these days. The dancehall great, known for ’80s classics “I Lost My Sonia” and “Informer” among others, will perform at the 2012 Olympics in London, where he will gain an audience with none other than Queen Elizabeth II, it was announced last week. The royal selection seems appropriate considering the last time we heard from Cocoa Tea was “Barack Obama,” his 2008 tribute to the then-future president. We also hear, courtesy of the Jamaica Gleaner‘s “Story of the Song” column, that his 1994 hit “Rikers Island” is getting some heavy airplay in France as a result of the Dominique Strauss-Kahn scandal. Just in time for his Olympic-sized news, meanwhile, the regal singjay has dropped a new tune, “Love Like Yours and Mine,” the first single from his upcoming album, Whe De Reggae Deh. Stream it below and let us know what you think.
