Not to be confused with Caribbean Fashion Week in Kingston (also being held in June this year), the inaugural Caribbean International Fashion Week will host designers from across the Caribbean and the diaspora at New York City’s Roseland Ballroom on June 8. The list of labels set to showcase includes Claudia Pegus (Trinidad), Beck Dutch Caribbean (Curacao), Heather Jones (Trinidad), Meiling (Trinidad), Trefle (Tortola) and Lubica (Jamaica by way of Slovakia). While we presume some of the stunners spotlighted on the event’s website (like Trinidad’s Crystal Cunningham) will model pon us at Roseland, organizers, along with Ocean Style Magazine, are mounting a search for new Caribbean models as well. The contest is open to women between 17 and 27, with submissions due May 15. Sorry yankee gals, models must be of first, second or third generation Caribbean descent!
