New York-raised Dominican auteur Albert Xavier just made film history by getting his new flick Hermafrodita accepted to screen at the world-renowned Cannes festival–and judging from the synopsis it’s guaranteed to make waves. As far as we understand the story hitman La Melaza moves to the country from Santo Domingo and strikes up a romance with local girl Maria. Everything goes smooth until it’s revealed that Maria is actually, you guessed it, a hermaphrodite.
