D.R. to Cannes: Filmmaker Albert Xavier Makes History

Words by Eddie STATS Houghton, via Friends We Love

New York-raised Dominican auteur Albert Xavier just made film history by getting his new flick Hermafrodita accepted to screen at the world-renowned Cannes festival–and judging from the synopsis it’s guaranteed to make waves. As far as we understand the story hitman La Melaza moves to the country from Santo Domingo and strikes up a romance with local girl Maria. Everything goes smooth until it’s revealed that Maria is actually, you guessed it, a hermaphrodite. What happens after that is anybody’s guess but luckily DJ Moni and our much loved friends over at Friends We Love sat Xavier down for an extensive interview and got inside his head and behind the scenes.
