Video: Watch Sean Paul’s “She Doesn’t Mind”

Words by Jesse Serwer, Photo by Sobe Kelly Knight

Sean Paul is moving fast these days. SP doesn’t yet have a name for his upcoming fifth album, but he already has two videos to show for it. Following closely on the heels of his Vegas-set clip for “Got 2 Love U” comes the airport security-themed “She Doesn’t Mind.” Like most of Sean’s songs of late, the Benny Blanco-produced tune combines the Euro-club synth sound that’s all the rage these days with dancehall drum patterns. Call it hedge-your-bets music. Meanwhile, his burgeoning production career continues to move forward. Sean recently leaked “Roll With The Don,” his vocal on his own Material riddim, co-produced with his brother Jason “Jigzagula” Henriques and Shaun “Copper Shaun” Anderson. The full riddim, featuring tunes by Leftside, Mr. Vegas, Wayne Marshall and more, is on sale Dec. 13.

Watch Dem Roll: Sean Paul Bikes Through NYC

Words by Jesse Serwer, via Maxim

You may already be aware of Sean Paul’s background in competitive water polo (if not, let us tell you) but the deejay is something of an all-around athlete, too. On a recent trip to New York City, he kept things active, playing paintball in Long Island with our own DJ Autograph and bicycling almost everywhere he went, from the studio to this webisode on wheels for Maxim magazine. Riding down Manhattan’s West Side Highway with editor-in-chief Dan Bova, SP discusses his upcoming album and recent ventures into production, explaining how biking has helped him recuperate from a torn ACL. Apparently, Sean and bikes stick together like glue. Watch dem roll below.

First Resort: Rockhouse Gives Back to Negril

Words by Jesse Serwer, Photos by Sobe Kelly Knight

As one of the Caribbean’s finest and most innovative hotels, Rockhouse in Negril, Jamaica attracts a loyal clientele of celebrities and other financially endowed folk who come for the first-class accommodations and dynamic cliff-top location, but come back for the authentic links to Jamaican culture people tend to forge there. Such friends are good to have when you also have a charity foundation the mission of which is to help support and rebuild schools and other local infrastructure, as Rockhouse owner Paul Salmon does. Drawn by food from Miss Lily’s (in which Salmon is also a partner) and performances by dancehall stars Sean Paul, Gyptian and rapper-turned-folk-type-dude John Forte, guests including Matt Dillon, Spragga Benz and lots of people we recognize but can’t necessarily name helped raise $135, 000 for the Rockhouse Foundation at its annual fundraiser at Joe’s Pub in NYC. Jamaican model/personality Tyson Beckford and DJ Sky Nellor hosted the event, while sounds were supplied by LargeUp friends Max Glazer and Rob Kenner. Scan below for some of these familiar faces but, before you do, take some time to watch this video about the Foundation’s recent restoration of the Negril Library, the town’s oldest structure.

Swim Good: Sean Paul Reps for Water Polo in “Cap Campaign”

Words by Emily Shapiro

In addition to being a Grammy Award-winning reggae artist, Sean Paul is also a champion water polo player and swimmer. He is lending his famous face and boasy style to USA Water Polo’s “Cap Campaign” to help expose the sport in the US and, hopefully, re-define the image of the water polo cap. Sean Paul’s grandfather was on Jamaica’s first water polo team and his parents were competitive swimmers as well, and he believes that playing water polo provided him with focus and discipline: “It’s freaking hard,” he says of the athletic challenge. The campaign, which has the tagline “I AM WATER POLO,” has rallied support from a variety of water polo playing celebs like actor Ted McGinley and actress/model Annalaina Marks. The photos will be circulated in magazines and on the internet. Watch a video of Sean talking about the sport below, and, if you haven’t yet caught his latest tune, “She Doesn’t Mind,” from his upcoming fifth album, stream it here.
