Mixtape Mondays: Deadly Dragon, Stereo Steppers x Super Cat, DJ Rory T

Words by DJ Theory and Jesse Serwer—

Deadly Dragon Sound, NYC Vibes Vol.2: At the nucleus of those keeping foundation reggae—and vinyl itself—breathing are proud New Yorkers, avid record collectors, retailers, radio hosts, and reggae music purists Deadly Dragon Sound. We shared their NYC Vibes Vol. 1 right here last year, and had to give you the follow up for some hotstepping NYC deejay education as only Deadly Dragon could deliver. They dig deep into the styles that were ruling NYC in the ’90s from Bushwick to the Bronx to the clubs of Manhattan, and ultimately the world, via the breakout sounds of Signet Records and their crew of Sting International and DJs like Shaggy, Mad Lion, Screechy Dan and Red Fox. The mixes touch on some of the other NYC labels of the time like Tan Yah, Secret Rival and Massive B, specifically artists like the late Sluggy Ranks, Private P, Trouble, Daddy Sylva and more. As always, the mix is comprised of 100% vinyl, with no long talking or gimmicks, just straight vintage juggling at its finest. Pree the mix below, get the track list here and check out more wicked DD mixes here.
