Mixtape Mondays: Douster’s “Inna Douster Style N Fashion” (LargeUp Premiere)

Words by Deejay Theory —

douster-inna-style-n-fashion

It’s good to see French tropical/bass/club music maestro Douster moving fully in the dancehall arena with his newest project—a wicked, four- track EP featuring the fresh voices of JA talents Keida, Cee Gee, Kantana and Kari Jess (not to mention some cool, Limonious-inspired artwork). Our friends at Mixpak passed thru this week to drop off this full-length DJ mix from Douster as a teaser for the release. The mix is stacked with favorites from the early days of dancehall to today, from Gregory Isaacs and Yellowman to Busy Signal and Tifa (and some French ragga, too), so we had to do the premiere for you right here on Mixtape Mondays just to fully hype up the ting.

Gaza City Revue: Watch Vybz Kartel’s “My Crew” Video

Words by Jesse Serwer—

gaza-city-portmore-vybz-kartel

Vybz Kartel’s absence has forced video directors to get creative, as Kartel’s continued popularity, in spite of his incarceration on two separate murder charges, necessitates promotion of the massive amount of material the Werl’ Boss left in his wake. The latest example is “My Crew,” from Kartel’s Kingston Story LP, re-issued today in physical form by Vice Records after a phyical-only 2011 release through Mixpak Records. The video spotlights the breadth of Kartel-themed graffiti in the area of Portmore known as Gaza City, as well as the area’s youth, from likkle pickneys jumping over a gully to bandana-clad young men pouring liquor down from rooftops. Watch below.
