We have a winner! Last night we gathered for a private screening party at the William Beaver House with Project Runway finalist and former Miss Trinidad, Anya Ayoung-Chee to watch the season finale and celebrate what she knew would be a great night. You may have read our interview with the young designer a few months back, even back then, I think we all had a good feeling that she would claim the 9th season for T&T. When we were invited to cover the screening party for LargeUp, it seemed safe to assume that she won and this was the victory bash.

First Resort: Rockhouse Gives Back to Negril

As one of the Caribbean’s finest and most innovative hotels, Rockhouse in Negril, Jamaica attracts a loyal clientele of celebrities and other financially endowed folk who come for the first-class accommodations and dynamic cliff-top location, but come back for the authentic links to Jamaican culture people tend to forge there. Such friends are good to have when you also have a charity foundation the mission of which is to help support and rebuild schools and other local infrastructure, as Rockhouse owner Paul Salmon does. Drawn by food from Miss Lily’s (in which Salmon is also a partner) and performances by dancehall stars Sean Paul, Gyptian and rapper-turned-folk-type-dude John Forte, guests including Matt Dillon, Spragga Benz and lots of people we recognize but can’t necessarily name helped raise $135, 000 for the Rockhouse Foundation at its annual fundraiser at Joe’s Pub in NYC. Jamaican model/personality Tyson Beckford and DJ Sky Nellor hosted the event, while sounds were supplied by LargeUp friends Max Glazer and Rob Kenner. Scan below for some of these familiar faces but, before you do, take some time to watch this video about the Foundation’s recent restoration of the Negril Library, the town’s oldest structure.

Every Posse Get Flat: Stream Federation Sound’s Flatlands Remix Project

Tomorrow the good youths of Federation Sound will be unveiling their Flatlands remix project, making it available for purchase via digickal download. You may remember the Flatlands in its original incarnation, a tough Max Glazer production which featured everyone from Natalie Storm to veteran Redd Foxx. For the remix project, the Federators opened up their dub-box to a who’s-who of production heavyweights, including but not limited to: Ward 21, DJ Ayres, Nick Catchdubs, Heatwave crew and DJ Theory of Mixtape Mondays fame. In other words LargeUp family in the building! The results are predictably wicked (but never predictable) and there has already been buzz from some big-name producers queuing up to jump on the next project–and this one didn’t even drop yet! Stream the whole damn thing below and drive before you buy.

Funky Cold Medina: Ron Jeremy x Panama Rum = Ron de Jeremy

Yes, there is a rum named after Ron Jeremy and, yes, there is a good reason to talk about it here. Ron de Jeremy is the idea of a company called One Eyed Spirits, who apparently had a light-bulb moment upon realizing that the Spanish word for run, ron, is also the first name of this most famous of porn stars. But while the concept is novel (and the marketing predictably references Jeremy’s unlikely powers over women), Ron de Jeremy is not a novelty product. It is distilled in Panama by Cuban master blender Francisco “Don Pancho” Fernandez, who is apparently kind of a big deal in the rum world, and the reviews of it generally seem to be very favorable. For now, the rum, which is aged seven years, is available only by web order (for $30), though the product is coming soon to stores and bars, according to the Ron de Jeremy website. Tip of the hat to super DJ Max Glazer for calling us out on Twitter for sleeping on this fine product!
