Bashment Bible: How + Where to Party at Notting Hill Carnival

Words by Jesse Serwer—

Headed to London for Notting Hill Carnival this weekend? You’ll find no shortage of entertainment to choose from, that’s for sure. Video: DJ Power feat. Kardinal Offishall + Machel Montano, “Fly So High”

Words by Jesse Serwer—

Trini-Canadian selector DJ Power recently traveled down to Trinidad and St. Maarten to film the visuals for his soca-house-hip-hop gumbo “Fly So High,” featuring Machel Montano and Kardinal Offishall. In it, Machel links up with Power and crew —including Trini footballer Dwight Yorke and cricketer Brian Lara—down in Trinidad, while Kardinal makes his presence felt via hologram—what other way is there these days?—presumably from somewhere in the T-Dot. Watch the clip below and download “Fly So High” here.

LargeUp Premiere: Machel Montano x Dre Skull = “Go Down”

Words by Jesse Serwer—

For his new Loudspeaker riddim, Dre Skull of Mixpak Records and Vybz Kartel’s Kingston Story fame has connected with none other than the reigning Groovy and Power Soca monarch, Machel Montano. While Machel has been known to step out of his high-BPM soca comfort zone on occasion, you’ve never heard him on a pure dancehall riddim quite like this before. This one is definitely gonna make both the gyuls and gyals go dung this summer, in what we expect will be a sexy show of Trini-JA dancefloor solidarity. Stream “Go Down” below, preview the rest of the tunes here, and look out for the full riddim release, also featuring Beenie Man, Popcaan and Natalie Storm, here on May 22.

High Fidelity: Dre Skull’s Loudspeaker Riddim

Words by Jesse Serwer—

Dre Skull and Mixpak Records have an excellent new riddim called Loudspeaker on the way May 22, and they’ve just released this clip hosted by our bredrin Walshy Fire as a preview of what’s in store. The ethereal riddim itself has nuff vibes, and the release has some of our favorite artists: Popcaan, Beenie Man, Machel Montano and our very own Punany Monologues columnist Natalie Storm. Feel like there’s a summer anthem in there somewhere but can’t quite call which it is yet. Which one do you think will buss?
