Lighters Up Snoop Lion Mavado

Just one week after the underwhelming “Here Comes the King,” the guy now calling himself Snoop Lion has unleashed the most interesting track thus far from his Reincarnated project. And he’s brought some notable guests from the dancehall world to “Lighters Up,” namely the Gully Gad Mavado, and Popcaan. Though unbilled, Jahdan Blakkamoore (who co-wrote “Lighters”) also lends his vocals to the track.

Back in mid April, we brought the exclusive story on Drake’s trip to Jamaica to shoot the music video for “Find Your Love“, in which Mavado plays the badman who wants to shoot Drake over one of his girls. The video was an instant #1 on MTV, complete with Mavado ramblin’ in patois (surprisingly) without any subtitles!

Like we told you a few weeks back, rap’s most-anticipated artist Drake took a page out of the gully gospel for his latest video, casting Mavado as the sharpest point of a love-triangle (also encompassing the ‘brown boy’ and dime-piece Maliah Michel) in the mini-epic he filmed in Kingston for “Find Your Love.” And now the rest of the world knows what we know: don’t misunderestimate the Gully God.
