Beenie Man takes an Audi ride into space in his trippy new video for “Rock the World,” on Portmore-based production team Brukkout‘s Sewage Breath riddim. But, as with so many dancehall videos, it’s the dancers who take things to the cosmos. Beenie’s co-stars in “Rock the World,” Sweden’s Blackout Twinz, have been making noise in Jamaica since becoming their home country’s dancehall queens a few years back, and they show us why with a charismatic performance to match that of the always-lively Beenie. Also making turns in “Rock the World,” directed by Stephen K. Schuster and Weird Days (a Brooklyn director team known for their work with Das Racist and indie band Real Estate, among others) are one of Beenie’s sons, and a bottle of Yaad Swag, his newly launched rum.

As you may know, our dude Max Glazer and Rihanna go way back. The Federation Sound boss man was Ms. Fenty’s original DJ, playing an instrumental role in the pop superstar’s early career, and still turns up as a DJ at her private parties. For her 24th birthday today, Mr. Glazer gave his old buddy a nice tribute by compiling an all-dubplate mix in her honor featuring pretty much every current dancehall star of note toasting to the Bajan princess’ B-day over their biggest recent hits. Popcaan’s “Ravin” and “Party Shot,” Beenie Man and Future Fambo’s “Rum and Red Bull,” Mavado’s “So Special,” Serani’s “No Games,” Vegas’ “I Am Blessed” and more all get Rihanna x 24 re-licks from the artists themselves. The “Drunken Master” Future Fambo has been one of our favorite dancehall personalities for a while, so we’ve been waiting on him to properly follow up the success of his tune career highlight “Rum and Red Bull.” We’re not sure that the Notice-produced feelgood tune “Brighter Day” is it but we’re digging the song’s video, directed by Mykal Cushnie, the camera operator for Better Mus Come and The Wray and Nephew Contender.
