As the Thanksgiving holiday rolls around in the US, we’re bursting at the seams with brand new and classic material here at Mixtape Mondays. Jamaica, Norway and Germany get a visit this week, as dancehall, culture and throwbacks bring three main ingredients to the table. We always break bread around here, so pull up a chair below.

Audio: Bounty Killer’s “No Long Talking” + Jah Snowcone’s Antibiotic Riddim

Words by Jesse Serwer, Photo by Martei Korley—

Bounty Killer, Wayne Marshall and Federation Sound

Bounty Killer’s new one “No Long Talking” is one of our favorite tunes of the past month, and our pick for best Bounty song in at least a few years—it’s the Warlord back in top form. We can’t say for sure if it was recorded before or after his recent dust-up with Tommy Lee Sparta, but if that’s what it took to get him back on the level, than bring on the clash!

Words by LargeUp Crew—

Monday is Jamaica’s big 50th anniversary, and Rice and Peas will be celebrating the momentous occasion in fine style at Westway in NYC. Hey, Dude: Introducing The Ranch Entertainment x Rice and Peas 5th Anniversary

Words by Jesse Serwer—

Double the reasons to party, double the vibes. Has someone said that before? Welp, we’re saying it now. As New York’s famed Rice and Peas party celebrates its fifth anniversary in style at Santo’s Party House on Monday, June 4, newly launched record label The Ranch Entertainment will be celebrating its birth. Ranch artists Shaggy, Rayvon and Red Fox will take the stage while the Rice and Peas crew (Max Glazer, Micro Don, DJ Gravy, DJ Maya, Orijahnal Vibez) holds down the decks, and Massive B’s Jabba hosts. Oh, and the party will also be the set of a video shoot for Rayvon’s “Selecta,” so come looking proper.

Hi, Rihanna: Federation Sound’s All-Dubplate Rihanna Birthday Mix

Words by Jesse Serwer, via Federation Sound

As you may know, our dude Max Glazer and Rihanna go way back. The Federation Sound boss man was Ms. Fenty’s original DJ, playing an instrumental role in the pop superstar’s early career, and still turns up as a DJ at her private parties. For her 24th birthday today, Mr. Glazer gave his old buddy a nice tribute by compiling an all-dubplate mix in her honor featuring pretty much every current dancehall star of note toasting to the Bajan princess’ B-day over their biggest recent hits. Popcaan’s “Ravin” and “Party Shot,” Beenie Man and Future Fambo’s “Rum and Red Bull,” Mavado’s “So Special,” Serani’s “No Games,” Vegas’ “I Am Blessed” and more all get Rihanna x 24 re-licks from the artists themselves. Stream the mix below, and download it here.
