Pon Di Move: Blacka Di Danca’s To Di World Tour, Fall 2014

Blacka Di Danca has touched the road again, and this time he’s in Europe for his longest tour yet. If you’ve followed Blacka’s adventures in his Blacka’s World column, you know the drill by now: When Blacka comes to your town, it’s your opportunity to learn how fi dance dancehall from a true bashment maestro. Blacka’s classes aren’t just about showing you how to do the latest steps: they’re a full tutorial highlighting dancehall movements from the ’90s through today. In other words, you don’t just come out of his classes with a few new dancehall steps in your repertoire, but also knowledge of the culture.

After starting things off with his first date in Portugal, Blacka’s back in France, with dates to follow in Belgium, Finland, Sweden and Denmark, plus a side trip to Buenos Aires, Argentina, during the second week in November. Our dupes in the UK have been teaming up with artists like Vybz Kartel, Mr Lexx, Busy Signal, Fatman Scoop and heaps more over the past few years, and, for their latest single, Jr. Tubby and Ras Kwame drafted none other than RDX to spread their signature party flow all over this uptempo Electro-Bashy recording. There’s even a 2-step mix to make sure the UK massive is properly sorted.

LargeUp contributor and producer/DJ Echo Slim gave us a preview of his “unorthodox sound crew” Yaga Sounds on Mixtape Mondays a few weeks back. Now the Miami-based squad—part sound system and part live band, it also includes Joshua “Gappo” Manning (keyboardist for Beres Hammond, and son of The Abyssinians’ Donald Manning) and engineer Flexx—have dropped off their debut single “D.B.M.,” featuring none other than Sizzla, over a driving, uptempo dancehall riddim.

Globally-respected Red Bull Music Academy Culture Clash makes its Bay Area debut this Wednesday, October 1st and two of our very own will be competing as part of the Tormenta Tropical battalion. DJ Gravy just reached SF to join Deejay Theory, Oro11 and more extra large surprise guests to take on local SF staples Dirtybird, Triple Threat and Dub Mission in soundsystem war, modeled after a Jamaican soundclash. Definitely a rare event for the Bay Area massive and sure to be a memorable and epic event.
