Screechy-Dan-MyStory6-600x600

The day has finally arrived! Myself, Kenny Meez of Federation Sound, DJ Shirkhan of Safari Sound and LargeUp are all super excited to present Screechy Dan’s My Story  to the world. This mixtape is 65 minutes showcasing the many sides of Screechy Dan, most of which the world has never heard. Whether you know the Jamaica-born, Brooklyn-raised deejay’s history or not (If you don’t, make sure to also read LargeUp editor Jesse Serwer’s in-depth interview with Screechy here), we know you’re going to enjoy this mixtape spanning his classic material (“Pose Off,” “Skin Out”) and new and unheard lyrics interlaced with skits and freestyles demonstrating Screechy’s comedic talents.

Blacka’s World: We Chief “Gyals From Brooklyn” Video Premiere

Words by Blacka Di Danca—

We-Chief-Gyals-From-Brooklyn

A few months ago, I made a step out of the standard dancehall scene (clubs, workshops, dance videos) and made my debut in the mainstream entertainment industry as a music video choreographer. I had the opportunity to choreograph Major Lazer’s “Lose Yourself” music video with Mela Murder, which already has over 2 million hits on YouTube. Now, I’m at it again! I’m proud to share with you that I choreographed my second music video, this time all by myself. “Gyals From Brooklyn” is my first solo project as a choreographer and little by little I’m working hard to bring authentic dancehall dancing into mainstream entertainment!

In August of last year Large Up ran a feature on iconic Brooklyn dancehall don Screechy Dan.  The piece detailed Screechy’s story from his arrival in the U.S. until the present day. Reading this story and witnessing Screechy perform on many occasions had me thinking to myself that Screechy is such an insanely talented artist, and that wasn’t really fully conveyed though his records.

If you’ve been to a dancehall party in New York, or pretty much anywhere, in the past five years, you’ve seen the smooth moves of Ground Zero. The crew, started in Brooklyn by Syrin Zero, has turned into an international dance family represented in countries including France, Russia, Brazil and Jamaica. In addition to dance, the good folks of Zero Nation are DJs, clothing designers and photographers. They pledge loyalty to their crew and really know how to throw a party.
