Tessellated - Freeza featuring Shenseea and Zac Jone$

Jamaican artist and producer Tessellated definitely lives up to his name. The word “tessellate” refers to the coming together of different elements in a mosaic. A fitting term for someone who spends their time between Los Angeles and Kingston, blending together the sounds of reggae, dancehall, hip hop, trap and pop.

The 21-year-old is well known for the dancehall fusion of “Pine and Ginger,” a collaboration Amindi K. Fro$t and Valleyz that’s made itself equally at home in streaming playlists and coaster buses. (The single is approaching 10 million Spotify streams.) He followed up with his solo single “Hallucinate,” produced by Rvssian and krs., and lent his signature style to Jada Kingdom‘s “Banana,” which he produced alongside Valleyz and Jaxx.

Now Tessellated is back with his newest single, “Freeza,” featuring dancehall’s Shenseea and introducing Zac Jone$. The track is a smooth blend of sounds, with Tessellated and Shenseea exchanging playful lyrics over a sensual dancehall riddim. The song highlight’s Shenseea’s versatility, while Zac Jone$ holds his own on the vocals. Tessellated shared his inspiration with us:

I feel like Freeza is a perfect example of genre fusion, smooth jazz inspired keys contrasted with rhythmic dancehall drum patterns. This is the sound I’ve been striving to achieve.”

Cool off with some dancehall fusion, fresh from yard. Available on all streaming platforms Friday.
