Angela Hunte‘s career as a songwriter and hooks girl has taken her from Flatbush, Brooklyn to Swedish mega-studios to the height of Carnival season in Trinidad & Tobago. To say that she’s carved an unorthodox path to her freshly-dropped debut album, R.A.W., would be an understatement.

To get audiences up to speed with her eclectic catalog, Angela hooked up with Miami-based DJ/producer dEVOLVE for The R.A.W. Mixtape, a mix of Angela’s own hits, new and unreleased tracks, and never-before-heard versions of some of her most notable writing credits. For the first time ever, you’ll hear the original version of “Empire State of Mind,” which Angela initially recorded in a London songwriting camp before Jay-Z and Alicia Keys re-made the track into 2009’s biggest singles (and one of the biggest tracks of either’s careers). Also included are reference tracks from Snoop Lion’s Reincarnated project (for which Angela wrote or appeared on nine tracks), the soca smashes “Party Done” and “Mon Bon Ami,” the Diplo collab “Keep It Gully,” and new tracks like “Runaway Love” and “Getting Ova U.”

The mixtape drop follows last month’s release of R.A.W., an eight-song reggae LP on DJ Buddha’s Therapist Music, and the premiere of her video for lead single, “Runaway Love”. Along the way, Angela’s racked up features in Vibe, The Fader and Vice; catch an in-depth interview with her tonight at 7pm on Apple Music’s Beats1 Radio with Ebro Darden.
