Fresh off his recent “cameo” on Drake’s Views — the rapper, or more precisely producer Boi-1da, samples the singer’s voice via Mavado’s 2007 single “Dying” on the album’s second track, “9”—  dancehall don Serani is back with a new single, “Stay Alive.”

The track finds the Daseca producer-turned-singer, known for gyal tunes like “No Games” and “She Loves Me” and the dance anthem “Skip To My Lou,” in a weightier mindset. Serani conjures the dread and uncertainty many are feeling about today’s world, touching on war, death, mass shootings, and Buju Banton’s incarceration, as he offers words of encouragement to those of us dealing with everyday trials and tribulations. Musically, the track bears some clear inspiration from Kanye West, as a heavily processed robo-voice matches his pronouncements with the refrain, “I’m just tryna stay alive.”

Listen below, and stay safe out there.
