More than a half-decade after he came to the reggae world’s attention as a member of Vybz Kartel’s Portmore Empire/Gaza crew, Jah Vinci has just released his debut LP Ghetto Born.

The dancehall/reggae singer has been on the scene since 2008, with tracks like “In My Life,” “Kill Dem Fast,” and “Money” showcasing his versatile vocal stylings. Now, he’s collaborating with artists like Beenie Man and none other than Junior Reid, who is currently in New York getting ready to perform at the first ever LargeUp SummerStage concert in Central Park this Saturday. Jah Vinci is far from the only artist to have been blessed with a cameo from Reid, however. Mr. One Blood’s 30 year career has been punctuated by appearances on dancehall, reggae, and hip-hop tracks of all stripes—check out some of the best here. “Penitentiary,” Jah Vinci and Reid’s duet, is a conscious treatise on the problems with the prison system over an EDM-inflected reggae beat—listen below, and tell us what you think in the comments.
