Mr-Easy-The-Don

It’s Friday night, and we’d rather not be typing away at our laptop, but we just had to break our weekend silence early and put you on to one of the best new reggae/dancehall records we’ve heard since…well, we’ve heard a few good ones lately, but this one’s….just listen…

Brooklyn’s Ricky Blaze has been grinding on the artist and producer tip lately—check his latest tune, “Last Try.” Among other things, he’s been cooking up some much-needed new material for NYC reggae legend Mr. Easy. Look out for their collaboration called “Dance” premiering on LargeUp shortly.

“The Don” is some old-time gangster singjay business—think Pinchers in the “Bandelero” era—with Easy coolly dishing gyalist lyrics over a late ’80s-style riddim with some modern flourishes. It’s from an upcoming LP called Easy Does It, so look out for that, too.

Meanwhile, get up to date with Ricky Blaze in our recent in-depth feature, and catch Mr. Easy performing his classic “Drive Me Crazy” with The Roots (!!!) at the Okayplayer Holiday Jam in 2011, via LargeUp TV.
