Bunji Garlin isn’t one of these uptown soca artists who rides in to Carnival on a high horse. No, on his new groovy tune “Savage,” Trinidad’s most rugged-voiced soca warrior emphatically labels himself and his crew, “anti-stoosh.” They’re so not stoosh that folks claim they’re from de bush, Garlin continues on the tune, produced by British-Trini production team Jus Now using a sample of “Savage” by Trini calypsonian Maestro.

This is definitely one of the hottest tunes we’ve heard thus far for T&T Carnival season, and the breakdown of the sample gives it an appeal that goes beyond soca. Stream “Savage” below and, if you’re headed down to T&T in February, watch out for those savages.
