Wrongtom Meets Demas J. In East London

On the heels of their Sleng Teng-inspired single, “Jump + Move + Rock,” (posted and discussed here) British producer Wrongtom and deejay Deemas J. released their collaborative LP In East London this week. If the excellent artwork by Greensleeves design don Tony McDermott isn’t enough to entice you to listen.

To celebrate the album’s release, record label Tru Thoughts have given us the follow-up single “Riot Ting” to give away as a free download. Where “Jump + Move + Rock” revisited the early digital dancehall era with its Sleng Teng-inspired riddim, “Riot Ting” takes us further back, to the rub-a-dub era. Deemas J., in a dual role, sings and chats of rioting, a prevalent theme in British music of those days, and one that’s current again in light of last summer’s conflagaration in Tottenham. Sample and download “Riot Ting” below and look out on Monday for the premiere of a killer ’80s digital mix from Wrongtom.
