Mixtape Mondays: Walshy Fire, Iron Lyon, Smutlee

August 13, 2012

Words by DJ Theory —

In keeping the summer vibes in full motion at Mixtape Mondays, we have a mixed bag of carnival heat from Miami, a heap of classics from NYC, and a humorously sick concept from Britain. Pull it all up below.

Walshy Fire, Major Lazer Carnival: All-around don, Black Chiney member and LargeUp contributor Walshy Fire steps in to handle mixtape duties for his steadily-conquering Major Lazer team in anticipation of their upcoming blowout at this years Notting Hill Carnival in London. Even if you are unable to attend this years fete, this raw combination of high-energy dancehall, reggae, bashment, No Doubt, moombahton, electro, soca, Major Lazer remixes and more should take care of biz and get you whining up on whatever side you’re on. No tracklist, just vibes. Stream and download below.

Iron Lyon x Violette New York, Rude Boy Yute: To promote the bubbling hot Rude Boy Yute collection for Vashtie‘s NYC-based Violette clothing label, our dude Iron Lyon cooked up this essential combination of classic reggae and dancehall favorites to complement the line. From “Bandelero” all the way to “Could You Be Loved,” there’s no shortage of memories and forwards to be found here. It also happened to drop on JA Independence Day, another suitable detail for this wicked throwback mix of JA hits. Stream and download below, tracklist and info here.

Smutlee, The Jafaican Mixtape: Brand new mix for our folks over at Mixpak from the UK mate Smutlee. This one is definitely original, with straight lol’s right out the gate. The Ras Trent intro (can’t believe nobody’s used that before) would be the only appropriate way to lead off something called Jafaican. All jokes aside, this mix is tuff and covers a heap of ground, showcasing an hour of non-Jamaican productions all directly influenced by JA music, artists and culture. After an autotuned cosign from the man like Toddla T, Smutlee rolls into tunes from a mixed bag of our favorites and extended family including of course some badd Smutlee remixes and edits, and even a remix from this guy. Stream and download below, tracklist here.
