snowboardWe’ve known for a long time that reggae, dreads, and the island lifestyle are a tremendous part of the skateboard, surf and snowboard culture. While hip hop and rock genres have dominated the musical side of corporate marketing scheme for most extreme sports brands, it seems Snowboarding’s top brand Burton have made some moves to incorporate some Reggae branding for this coming season that goes beyond just the typical red, gold and green stripes.

They recently collaborated with Marley and Co. to create a new line of limited edition hardgoods and outerwear called the Whammy Bar which tributes the life and legacy of Reggae King, Bob Marley.

The board features pics of Bob performing and playing football aka soccer. Bob’s son Rohan, who is known for playing the American version of football while at the University of Miami, has been hard at work (you may have read our recent post about his involvement in Marley brand organic coffee) and had this to say about the Burton x Marley collaboration.

“It was a natural fit to work with Burton on the Bob Marley snowboard collection,” says Rohan Marley. “Like my father, they are pioneers in their field and celebrate life’s endless possibilities.”

“Snowboarders around the world are some of Bob Marley’s most dedicated fans,” added Greg Dacyshyn, Chief Creative Officer at Burton Snowboards. “So we were honored to work with Marley & Co. on this project.  With the help of the Marley family, we chose iconic images from Bob Marley’s life for the board graphic, to pay tribute to his legacy, music and lifestyle. The history and heritage of both Burton and Bob Marley definitely come to life in this board.”

Burton’s Whammy Bar Marley is an all-new snowboard for the 2010/2011 season and is available in four sizes and retails for $399.95.
